Today's interview on Redefining Medicine features Peter Attia, MD. Known for his medical practice that concentrates on the applied science of longevity and optimal performance, Dr. Attia’s original studies focused on aerospace engineering in graduate school—yet his personal experiences led him to shift to medicine, in the hopes of engaging in greater interactions with people. Upon the birth of his daughter, Dr. Attia’s interest in longevity was peaked due to the ‘realization of his own mortality,’ and he embarked on a career of investigating health span and lifespan. In discussing the critical need for motivation behind patient behavior modification; the difference between efficacy and effectiveness; and specific techniques that can improve the intersection between mind, body, & spirit, Dr. Attia outlines the most productive and constructive type of healthcare. In concluding that the most important aspect of medicine is critical thought, and constantly updating information and insights, Dr. Attia reiterates the necessity of adopting “a mindset of constant learning.”
